Vincent "Sonny" Charles Vitrano
It is with great sadness that the family of Vincent “Sonny” Charles Vitrano, native of Independence, La, and long time resident of New Orleans, announces his passing on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the age of 85.
Vincent is the father of Kathleen Vitrano and Cheryl Fos; stepfather of George DeDual, Kevin (Kristen) DeDual, and Melissa (David) Berner. He is the beloved “Pawpaw” of Trisha Fos, Cory DeDual and Mark Fos, Jr. along with great grandchildren, Heaven, Sky, and Bella. He will also be missed by his sisters, Rose Vallaroutto and Diane Vitrano; as well as, nephew, David Vallaroutto; niece, Debra Vallaroutto; and great-nephew, Joseph Vallaroutto.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Eugenia “Jeanie” Vitrano on March 4th, 2023; and son-in-law, Mark Fos, Sr. on October 18, 2022.
He is also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lena Vitrano; his brother, Vincent John Vitrano; and his brother-in-law, J.C. Vallaroutto.
Vincent was born on July 25, 1937, and graduated from Independence High School. He moved to New Orleans and worked until he retired from the New Orleans Stevedores.
He was an avid LSU Football fan attending his first game in 1958 and continuing as a season ticket holder throughout his life until 2017. He also loved LSU baseball and the New York Yankees.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, LA 70401. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. with services at 12:00 p.m.. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Colonial Cemetery in Independence, Louisiana.
