Robert Ray "Red" Whittington, passed away at North Oaks Medical Center on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at the age of 86. He was born on Sunday, January 27, 1935, in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Robert was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana.

The Jesuits in Shreveport found Robert in Jr. High and gave him a football scholarship to their school. He converted to Catholicism and became a good Catholic, and a standout football and basketball player. Robert tried working at night and Centenary College during the day, but couldn't make the grades. He went to work at KTBS Television Station where he met his love, Carol. They married and he worked two jobs, the second at J.C. Penney. It was then that he received a pay raise with J.C. Penny's and moved the family to Dallas then to NYC, and from there went to Atlanta and Destin, Florida. Robert worked for J.C. Penny's until he retired after 32 years of service. He and his wife Carol raised five children and had many exciting adventures.

Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Ann Guitrau; father of: Laura Pait (Sam), Elizabeth, Catherine, Carol Cay and Robin Rae; grandfather of: Elaine, Sammy and Erin; and brother to: Charles Butler Whittington (Mercedes); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hollis Lloyd and Elaine O'Neal Whittington; and sister, Faye Hankins.

A Visitation for Family and Friends will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 10:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 am at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401.

Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.
