Mark D. Cortez Sr. (Whitey) of Manchac, LA went home to Jesus and his wife Wanda on August 1st, 2022 at the age of 81. Wanda preceded Mark in death by 24 days.
Mark was born to John M Cortez Sr and Azelie Tregle Cortez on August 20th, 1940 in Des Allemands, LA. He has two surviving sisters, Clara C. Breda and June Faulkner.
Mark met his wife, Wanda Henderson Cortez in August of 1957 at a beach party in Slidell. They married January 3rd, 1960 and went on to have 3 children, Tammy Cortez McFadden, Denise Cortez Humphrey (Randy) and Mark Cortez Jr (Annette).
In addition to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather; Mark loved to fish, shrimp and crab, he was a commercial fisherman by trade and owned the Q-B-On Fish Market and Bar in Manchac for many years.
Mark joins his wife, mother, father and brothers, John M. Cortez Jr, Edwin L. Cortez, and sister, Doris Cortez, in Heaven. He is survived by his 2 sisters, 3 children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
All family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home at 100 W Magnolia St. in Ponchatoula, LA on Friday, August 5, 2022. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
