A light is gone, and heaven is enriched with the passing of Jo Ellen Patanella Marten on Friday, December 21, 2018. Family left to cherish her memory are her husband of 25 years, Thomas G. Marten, mother Virginia Guzzardo, daughter Kristen Marten Phillips and son-in-law Ryan Phillips, son Thomas Ryan Martenand daughter-in-law Brittany: grandchildren, Gunner and Liam Marten, Charlee,Harper and Nolan Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her father Frank Patanella,sister Julie Anne Patanella, grandparents George and Anne Guzzardo and Joe andFrances Patanella and cousin Mark Mannino.
Jo Ellen was born on November 6, 1960 in Independence, LA and was an employee of the Tangipahoa Parish School System. Tommy and Jo Ellen lived in Hammond and attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the K.C. Ladies Auxiliary. She was very active in the American Cancer Society and was a Team Leader for the Relay for Life.
She will be remembered for her faith, strength and kindness. Jo Ellen enjoyed traveling,family gatherings and the New Orleans Saints. However, the greatest joy of her life was spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Sons Funeral Home in Hammond on Wednesday, December 26th from 5:00-9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm and on Thursday, December 27th from 8:30 am until 10:00 am. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Colonial Cemetery in Independence, LA.
