James "Pop" Howard Black I passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 78.  He was born on Wednesday, October 21, 1942 in Portland, Oregon to the late Esther and Charles Bafford.  He was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Pop is survived by his wife, Joan Marie Black; children, Kerrie Ellison, Kevin Black, William Maffin, Lisa Black, James Black II, and Kathleen Hall; grandchildren, Brian Ellison, Jr., Elizabeth Reuther, Constance Ellison, Chantell Black, Matthew Black, Tiffany Stiefel, Jacob Black, Scott Jenkins, Charity Jenkins, Earl Miller, James Black III, Patricia Black, Trey Thompson, Colin Thompson, Logan Thompson, Jada Hall, and Aurora Hall; siblings, Kathleen Fenn, Skip Black, and Billy Black; great-grandchildren, Gage Cody, Billy Dunn, Coral Dunn, Michael Black, and Annabelle Black.

In addition to his parents, Pop is also preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri Black, and his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ray Lewis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Monday, December 28, 2020 beginning at 6:00 pm.  A memorial service will be held for Pop at 7:00 PM, after which the visitation will continue until 9:00 PM.

Face masks are now mandatory to attend any visitation or service at the funeral home. Thank you for your cooperation.
