George G. Coats, Jr. "Babin" went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 4, 2021 surrounded by family in the comfort of his home. He and his devoted wife of 66 years, Marcia, were lifelong residents of Springfield. George proudly served in  the United States Army. After leaving the Army,  he attended mechanical school and upon completion he worked as a mechanic until going to work as an  ironworker with Local 623, from which he retired. George was serving as Vice President for the Carter Cemetery. He loved riding horses and tending to his cows. He could always be found in a hay field or at his barn caring for chickens and other animals. But, what he loved most of all was sneaking around giving sweet treats to his great-grandchildren. For the ones that knew him, it was obvious Pawpaw George loved spoiling his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially spoiling his wife.

George is survived by his wife Marcia Coats; daughter, Mary Lou Coats; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan  and Jeannie Coats, Sr.; grandson, Bryan Coats Jr. and wife Jessica; granddaughter, Taylor Irvine and husband Caleb; great-grandchildren, Owen George Irvine and Lorelai "Lolo" Coats; sister, Elaine "Ling" Fayard; sister-in-law, Theresa Coats; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ruby and Ronnie Aaltonen; special nephew, Leonard "Jr" Coats; personal weather man, Ray Aaltonen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George G. and Mary Louise Coats; brother, Leonard "Sug" Coats; sister and brother-in-law, June and Amos McIntyre and brother-in-law, Jimmy Fayard.

Visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, LA on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 9:00 am until funeral services begin at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.
