Gary Wayne Crosby, 64, a lifelong resident of Independence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on January 19, 2022.

Gary, the Patriarch of a family of mostly girls, is remembered as patient, a provider and a protector.  Though he was a man of few words, when he spoke, everyone listened. His advice was sound and reflected quality over quantity.  Those who knew him best would describe him as calm and collected. Both the professional and personal sides of Gary were wise, true to type and extremely loyal.

In the 70s, Gary spent many years working with his dad, Billy, at their Billups Station in Hammond.  During this time, not only did he make many connections with the people of Tangipahoa Parish, he was able to serve his community by doing what he loved.

In his younger days, Gary played sports, competed in fishing tournaments and was quite the bowler. As he became “Paw Paw”, Gary enjoyed grilling and cooking in general. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially riding the little ones around on his tractor and taking them to the hunting camp.  He relished working with his dear friend since childhood, Anthony Liuzza. He and Anthony spent a great deal of time together over the last year as well as he and his cousin/neighbor Pat Sandford Jr.  This special time allowed for them to laugh and reminiscence.  Gary retired from the Tangipahoa Parish Mosquito Abatement after 15 years of hard work and dedication. He continued serving his community by being a member of both the Italian and Sicilian Festival Boards.

Gary is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Terri.  His daughters and son, Tammy (Brian), Tricia (Craig), Trent (Brittany), Traci (Joe) and Kaylee (Brandon).  Not to mention, 15 grandchildren.  His sister, Cindy Crosby Givens, as well as 4 nieces, their spouses and children.

He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Levi Crosby; his mother, Mary Ann Montalbano Crosby; a daughter, Mandy Renee’ Crosby; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 12:30 pm until the funeral service begins at 2:30 pm in the funeral home chapel at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401.  Interment will follow.
