Edgar Dennis McGehee Jr., of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the age of 88. He was born on Thursday, January 11, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late Edgar D. and Huguette Fernandez McGehee.

Edgar was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was also a retired law enforcement officer, having worked with the New Orleans Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish Police Department. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Louisiana Peace Officer Association.

Edgar is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gayle M. McGehee, 4 children; Edgar D. McGehee, III, Michael McGehee, Sharon M. Gorman, and Cynthia M. Olson; 4 step-children, Melissa L. Hebert, Robin L. Callen, Scott D. Lemoine, and Grace L. Lemoine-Caveney; 13 grandchildren, Edgar D McGehee IV, Michael F. McGehee, Michael P. McGehee, Megan McGehee, Christian Abry, Lauren and Adam Hebert, Ashley and Courtney Callen, and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, and his brother, Patrick McGehee.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, 14450 Hwy 442, Tickfaw, Louisiana 70466 on Monday at 11:00 am, with Fr Michael Galea officiating.

Interment will follow at Amite Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Amite, Louisiana.
