Dr. George Alexander Harris, age 96, son of the late George Generelly Harris and the late Marie Louise Schwartz, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, in Covington, Louisiana. He was the grandson of the late Alexander Harris, Jr. and the late Emilie Sarpy, and of the late Michael Schwartz and the late Marie Louise Dirmann. Dr. Harris was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School, Southeastern Louisiana University, LSU, and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where he obtained his doctorate. Dr. Harris retired from the Department of Guidance and Counseling at Orleans Parish School Board. Dr. Harris was a long time professional musician with various orchestras and venues in New Orleans and other parts of the country. He played first chair clarinet for many years with the New Orleans Summer Pops, where he was also a board member.
Dr. Harris is survived by his beloved wife, Camilla Sigrid Swenson; children, Michelle Mary Harris, Alan Jerome Harris and wife Norma Figuero Harris, and Alicia Louise Harris; and grandchildren, Vanessa Alexandra Thibodeaux and her husband Stephen Thibodeaux, Giselle Rosemary Cloutier, Cary Michael Harris and his wife Regie Harris, Naomi Marie Harris, Rebekah Jean Dragg and her husband Rodney Dragg; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, Dr. Harris was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Albert Harris, Carl Virgil Harris, who was a Brother of the Sacred Heart, and his sister Marie Louise Harris.
Services for Dr. George will be private.
