Brooksie "June" Owens passed away at home on Monday, March 21, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born on Friday, November 2, 1934 in Clio, Louisiana to the late Brooksie Freeman and Calvin Maple Ross. She was a resident of Amite, Louisiana. June had a passion for family, flowers and animals, especially her chickens, who she loved raising and talking to and her dog Bo. She could be found sitting on the porch drinking coffee, sitting by a fire under a full moon, or getting ice cream with her friend Ed Martin. June loved to read and was a true "who dat" Saints fan.
June is survived by her children, Beth Pinion (Allen), James "Butch" Owens (Lisa), Callie Owens (Dinah), Robin Laiche (James), sister, Yvonne Mitchell, brother & sister-in-law, Hank Ross (Sheryl), 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James "Scratch" Owens, Sr.; parents, Brooksie Freeman and Calvin Maple Ross; and her sisters, Sandra Graham and Elaine Lee.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, 9:00 am - 11:00 am.
Interment will follow in Davidson Cemetery.
