Death Certificates
In order to transact business requiring the signature of your loved one, such as settling financial accounts, transferring ownership of property, or if you are filing a claim for benefits with an insurance company, you will probably need at least one certified copy of the death certificate for each establishment. It would be advisable to contact all financial institutions to determine their requirements. Certified copies are obtained from the Department of Health. The State of Louisiana currently charges $9.00 for the first certified copy and $7.00 for each additional certified copy. We will order as many certified copies as you request up to one year from the date of death.
