Answer to some of our most frequently asked questions?

Can a consumer choose which services they wish to have with a funeral?

Yes. You are free to request any and all services. Our funeral home has service packages, which may give you an idea of services that would be requested in a traditional style funeral. With our pre-need planning services, you can plan your funeral well in advance to make sure your wishes are carried out.

What purpose does a funeral serve?

A traditional open casket funeral provides the survivors with a visual realization of a loss, confirms the reality of a death, aids the survivors through the grieving process, and allows for the disposition of the remains with or without rites and ceremonies.  It is a testament to a life lived.  A funeral provides an opportunity for friends and community members to aid and comfort the survivors who are in mourning.  A funeral thus helps meet the spiritual and emotional needs of the survivors and also serves the community as a whole.

What is the role of the funeral director?

A Funeral Director is a person much like yourself and may be your neighbor, friend or relative.  Funeral directors are caregivers, advisors, administrators, and professionals who are licensed and legally required to possess professional qualifications.  They carry out administrative and logistical tasks required by law, custom or accepted practice.

Is embalming necessary or required by law?

Embalming may be necessary if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing.
If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement which does not require you to pay for it, such as direct burial or direct cremation. If your loved one is not embalmed, he/she shall be buried, entombed or cremated within thirty hours after death or out of refrigeration or release by the proper authorities in accordance with Louisiana Law: R. S. Title 37, Chapter 10, paragraph 848-D (2) & (3).

Can we have a funeral if cremation is chosen?

Yes.  Cremation is the final disposition of remains.  Prior to cremation you may set-up any funeral services that you require such as a funeral with viewing.

If a loved one dies away from home, can we still use the local funeral home?

Yes.  You should contact the funeral home of your choice.  Most, if not all, funeral establishments will help getting the necessary documentation and coordinate the arrival of your loved one.  By the same token, if someone dies locally, your funeral director will be able to assist in getting the necessary documentation to transfer your loved one to another location, stateside or overseas.
